What Makes Candidates Competitive?

Faculty representatives occasionally ask us to explain why their candidates were not selected for a scholarship. We select candidates using the independent, outside review of committees of faculty, deans, and admissions officers. Because the committees make their decisions based upon each committee's collective assessment, we are unable to comment precisely on the decisions reached about individual candidates.
